SMU Libraries Orientation AY 2022-23
Who is it for? ALL Year 1 Students
Why is it important? As part of your graduate learning outcomes, you are required to be an independent self-directed learner to be able to undertake academic research. You will learn how to locate your course readings and have research and critical thinking skills beyond Wikipedia and Google, especially in the digital world where fake news prevails.
How to participate? In 3 easy steps:
Step 1:
On Self-directed Day 1 of your Freshmen Orientation, start your journey by walking through the roadmap specially curated for you. Click on the image to begin!
Step 2:
On Experiential Day 2 of your Freshmen Orientation, take on the LibQuest challenges and earn team points.
[Important] Get ready for LibQuest beforehand: One member from each group must download the GameLead app (iOS | Android) and register for an account using his/her official SMU email address. Please enter Clan Name # in the ‘Name’ field upon registration, for example ‘Jones 12’ or ‘Croft 8’. Your group will need this app to navigate the LibQuest challenges and submit your answers to get team points. You can only attempt the challenges once and only one submission from each group is acceptable. |
Step 3:
Complete LIB001 – Library Research Skills 2022-23 learning activities and quizzes in eLearn. You will receive an email with more details from us in late July. Please stay tuned!
